The comedy zone of Bath Fringe Festival got off to a great start on Friday night with three top notch comic acts at the Fringe Marquee in Victoria Park. The evening was organised by the Fez Comedy Club, and full credit to it for providing the best evening of comedy the city’s seen in some time.

First up was a very un-Geordie-like Geordie, Richard Morton who blew his opening gag (‘I’m from Radcliffe… no, wait a minute, Radstock. Oh, hell!’) but managed to get so much comic mileage from his slip that it became the catchphrase for the night.

Next up was Andy Robinson, a deadpan comedian from Birmingham. ‘Well, someone’s got to come from there,’ said one wag in the audience, and Robinson proceeded to spin a hilarious improvisation about the repercussions of no one coming from the place.

It was hard to see how headliner Jeff Green could top these two, but he delivered a set that had the packed house roaring throughout. Some of his best material was concerned with the lifestyle changes involved when a man moves in with his girlfriend, including the ‘things you will never hear a man say.’
