Adam Bloom
25 July 1999
Last night saw the Comedy Cavern host its last show before it takes a well deserved summer break. And with Adam Bloom giving us a taste of what he’ll be serving up at the Edinburgh Festival, it was surely one of the funniest shows of the season.
A lot of comedians nowadays try very hard to develop a gimmick to make them stand out from the rest, but Adam has the best gimmick around. Quite simply, he’s very, very funny. Add to that a likable personality that lets him get away with some decidedly un PC cracks and you have the perfect recipe for a successful comedian.
His act embraces all kinds of humour, from one liners (‘I have an awful vocabulary… whatever that means.’) to slightly more subtle fare.
‘I was an obsessive compulsive so I went to a psychiatrist,’ he told a packed house. ‘After twenty-five visits, he cured me. Actually, I was cured after the fourth visit, but I just like to do things in twenty fives.’
Opening act Dan Antopolski will also be appearing in Edinburgh and he looks like a class act, too.
‘Come up here and say that!’ he shouted at a heckler at one point. Then he noticed the size of the man who’d called out. ‘Um, no, stay there and don’t say that.’
